Making a conscious effort to choose fruit over sweets, whole grains over denatured ones and adding more variety in my diet. My taste preferences seemed to have changed, but I see a connection. The more crap food I ate the less I wanted better food. As I am introducing things back into my system, things I truly like, my body is saying..."hey, that was good!" My protein intake is lower than I like, and carbs still on the high side, but this shall work it's way to where I want it to be. Right now, I feel good and have been eating more regularly...there are times I don't have true hunger in my belly, but then I would get dizzy or foggy headed then shaky...I then realized it was 1 or 2 in the afternoon and I hadn't really eaten. The past few days I have not experienced those shakes or dizziness.

I get to go to work today and am excited! I get a wee break from my mother-in-law and won't see my dad until after 3:00. A little shake up in the routine, but I like it! Mother-in-law is doing better, but each day is different and we cannot deny she is a fall risk, so she won't be left alone . The routine is getting easier and with the help of family and outside help we will be able to care for her in our home!

Up earlier than usual...430am, soaked in the hot tub...have not used that puppy all winter...listened to the owls and stargazed...more coffee indoors in the complete darkness...emptied my mind... and then jumped on my elliptical and seized the day. Usually I am formulating my day and figuring who needs what...

I took care of me FIRST!

Day 12 of taking care of my mother-in law. Some days are so much smoother. After a very confusing and challenging day I was ready to give up...but my husband help clarify what we are dealing with...it's a crap shoot...ya never know what you're gonna get...and by preparing and having coverage she'll be safe. I decided to give it at least a full 30 days before I make any changes. We are meeting with a couple of in-home caregivers so we can have coverage on days we work or need a break. Going to work is a break for me! :)

My Dad is great mentally but slowing down physically...but still getting out everyday. I take him out. He will probably never drive again, I see too many obstacles...his response time and inability to look over his shoulder...those walkers make you so hunched and stiff...It's good for him to get out. Its visiting a casino...he has coffee and plays for a couple of hours. Its like senior daycare...so many people with walkers and canes and I guess they enjoy it. I am not a fan, but then I prefer the outdoors and have the ability to be active. Thankfully, the workers are so empathetic and kind to the seniors. My dad used to love to garden...He was very strong and active his whole life.

Almost didn't record anything yesterday...too busy, too hungry...but decided to play catch-up today. Although I went over in calories, that's fine... I was starved all day...had a headache from all the phone calls gathering info on some in home care for my mother-in-law and just needed FOOD! Between caring for her and my father and trying to keep my part-time job, we need a little coverage. My daughter is gonna help one day and my one son is gonna be the emergency back-up since she has three kids, and my oldest son is gonna help on days my dad has doctor's appointments or emergencies arise etc... On the good side, she is getting around a bit better and feeling better. These spells of weakness come out of nowhere and all labs and physical came back normal. She is 95, so it's probably just the aging. I even worked out a few days and am being more mindful to fuel myself instead of starving myself then setting myself up for over eating and exhaustion! Have a great day!!!

By the way, seems like some folks have vanished from this site...I miss them!
