Just got home (10:30 pm) from 6 hours in the water. What a glorious day. A few hours of swimming and a few hours under the water working on SCUBA skills. I'm really glad that I opted to take the entire course over, rather than just taking a refresher course. This is a much more comprehensive course than I took the first time. I got to try out my new wetsuit and my new equipment. Its very exciting having my own gear instead of using whatever rental gear is available.

Just as exciting was the fact that my fellow students were 1 teen, 3 men and one woman. I was the oldest by decades, but I was among the top 2 in fitness (I was beat out by a 20 something Army Captain in the Armored Calvary). Nobody was seriously out of shape, but only the two of us were actually in good physical condition. I spent a few hours with the group in naught but my bathing suit and when I saw my reflection I was (vanity alert!) very pleased with what I saw. That is a new experience for me. Coming from being 335 lbs and tremendously out of shape a year ago, I'm feeling proud of myself. SCUBA was my gift to myself for losing the weight and getting into shape. I promised myself that I'd get serious about diving and make a serious investment in it once I was fit enough.

This is one more thing coming off my bucket list this year (getting a horse was the first). Well, I've got a take home test to do before I turn in and I start a new Scuba Class (NITROX training) tomorrow morning.

Oh i am so happy for you! and looking at your reflection and being please with what you see - that is so not vain especially after the hard work you have put in!I think you just hit the nail when joining for SCUBA classes! Not only do you have to be physically fit and mentally alert but you have to want to just do it! and you are that person! Enjoy and keep filling us in....your journal today is infectuous and a wonderful way to start the week!
