NO EXCUSES!
Got to bed at midnight last night. Woke at 5 AM. By 5:30, I was dressed had the light collar on my Springer Spaniel, my headlamp on and a spare flashlight in my pocket. The dogs and I stepped outside to start a good hike. Once on the deck, we were buffeted by a stiff, cold wind blowing straight out of the North and a steady, chilling rain. I thought about calling it off for all of 2 seconds, but I had promised the dogs a walk. After about a 30 second conference with the dogs, we decided to go anyway. I stepped inside and changed to a warmer, more water resistant jacket with a hood and we headed out. I figured we could go a few miles anyway. Well, a few miles turned into 10 miles. Due to the swelling in my extremities and the cold, damp weather I never did get my leg muscles to warm up, and the little dog had to be carried inside my jacket for the last 2 1/2 miles to prevent hypothermia, but it was still a lot of fun and a great way to burn 1,400 calories before breakfast.
After the hike and a quick Turkey Burger for breakfast, it was off to the office for a short day (closed early to get home for the Super Bowl). We were standing room only at work until about 2:30, but by 3:00 we were able to finish up the last clients of the day and by 3:30 we were on our way home.
What with the walk in the morning, the light breakfast, and the busy work schedule that prevented my eating lunch I figured that I could eat pretty much whatever I wanted the rest of the day. I grabbed some pre-cooked bacon and a Tbsp of Chia on the way out of the office after work just to hold me over. I munched on Kashi crisps, some brisket nachos, planters nuts, and some dip I made by mixing Hidden Valley Ranch Dressing Mix with Fage 0% Greek Yogurt during the game and then had some T-Bone steak, wild boar & a protein shake for dinner. Ate a bit too much of the snack stuff, and I think that I may pay the price for that tomorrow.
My weigh-in this afternoon (after work but before the snacks) was up a little again to 198.2 lbs, but its the water weight growth still. Body water percentage is up to 62.6% (124lbs), Body Fat percent was 15.5% (30.72lbs), Bone Mass 8.2 lbs, & Muscle Mass 156.4 lbs (32.4 lbs without water). So the Water is way up, the muscle is up, & the fat lbs are steady. According to BC533, Visceral Fat Rating is still "9" which is good, Physique is still "6" (high muscle/average body fat). The bone weight of 8.2lbs is very good. The Daily Calorie intake (DCI) it suggests is 4,595. That's a laugher. I'd be 300 lbs again in about a month if I ate that much. My metabolic age is 26. Since my actual age is 57, I'll take that!
So what's it all mean? I read this as being good news. First, once again, I am so glad that I have this type of scale. If I was taking in a calorie deficit every day and watching the scale rise every day for two weeks knowing nothing but the total weight, I'd jump off a bridge. However, knowing that I'm retaining more and more water (which I certainly guessed from the swelling in my legs), and knowing that my actual pounds of body weight are dropping and my muscle mass is increasing a little, tells me that all is actually well. Now, clearly, my body fat percentage is a little artificially low at the moment, due to the fact that an extra 6 or 8 lbs of water in my body makes the amount of body fat I have a smaller percentage of the total. If I can drop my water retention by, say 7 lbs while maintaining a constant amount of body fat, my body water percentage would drop to 60.87% and my body fat percentage would rise to 15.9% without gaining an ounce of fat. Sooo, I'm not going to sweat any of these readings. I'm just going to keep with the program and hope the doc can straighten out the water issues over time. I'm exceptionally pleased with the overall results, though and feel like I'm certainly on the right track.
