i have not been taking good care of myself for last 6 months or so, triggered by unexpected job loss. I'm diabetic and either eat too much of wrong stuff or forget to eat. I'm working as restaurant hostess until I can find something full time. Even though there's a lot I like about being a hostess, there's something systemic that messes with my health and probably that of my other diabetic coworkers: 1. Unless we work a double shift, we do not get meal breaks. 2. There is no refrigerator to keep employee fresh food. 3. There's some kind of health code rule that keeps us from having water bottles at our station (I have dry mouth and also start losing my voice without adequate hydration). I've been getting around no meal break or frig by bringing a package of crackers with peanut butter that I can either eat in break room for 10 mins or discreetly at my station if we're really busy. But last night we were so crazy busy for whole night that I didn't get chance to or remember to eat. Any orher diabetics working in similar conditions have any tips? I think it's time for me to get doctor's notes for food & better access to water. When I explain I'm diabetic, most of my coworkers and managers are very understanding. But we're about to lose a manager and gain two new ones.
