Steps yesterday: 836 (SmartHealth watch); 687 (Withings Pulse) - low because I didn't wear it all day
BPM:77
Blood oxygen level: 98
Turns out I can buy lentils and chickpeas cheaper from Relay Foods, a local organic and whole foods supplier, than I can from Amazon. Took me summer and fall and part of winter, but the cupboard and freezer are starting to empty. Getting ready to place my first order with Relay.
Update: placed my first order with
Relay
, complete with the usual glitches necessitating a half hour on the phone with support.
Out of milk.
Had a scare when I couldn't find the Withings Pulse. I took it out to take a reading, put it down, and put a bowl on top. Didn't help that it was the same color as the surface. Reinforced my belief that the best trackers are the ones you strap on your wrist.

I've gotten a lot more consistent about hydration. I thought it would add to my weight, but I'm not retaining, which I guess is a good thing.
Still adding another stepper session every week. I don't know whether it's a breakthrough, but I no longer actively hate working out on the stepper.
Relaxation: 20 minute nap.

Looked at the scale today and I'm now below 130 so my goal for the rest of the week will be to gain weight. I'm taking DebN's advice and leaving some room for error and insulation. I'm more worried about burning muscle than I am about gaining weight. I'm speculating that cardio may be doing too good a job of burning calories so I'm making the stepper the priority over the air walk trainer.
The sports physiologist/nutritionist I'm consulting with later this month sent me a health history form to fill out. It's a PDF. Now I've got to figure out how to fill it out.
Been hitting the whey protein and milk shakes hard to fight sarcopenia. Turns out there's no nutritional rationale for favoring nonfat over whole milk so I just cut my powdered milk bill in half. I run out of milk tomorrow so I will just double up on the whey protein since I have two tubs left. I'm also running low on Domino Light, but I may go on another sugar sabbatical even though I usually don't exceed the six teaspoons a day limit. Since I'm trying to gain weight, I may switch to regular sugar and save some money.
Time for my twice weekly seafood. It's either dumping shrimp into the lentil soup or cracking open a can of sardines.
Lessons learned from my first lentil soup: cook longer with more water. Some of the first batch was crunchy and burned

I've decided that exercise on the stepper gets priority over cardio on the Sunny Air Walk Trainer since that should yield the most functional improvement. Exercising on the trainer is easier but the stepper targets the area where I most need improvement. UPS left two packages on the porch. Negotiating the stairs was difficult.
I now have an appointment with the sports physiologist and nutritionist for later this month.
Relaxation: half hour nap.

Back to recording my food diary in FatSecret. One thing I like about the FatSecret Android app is that it puts a running total of your protein intake at the top of the page. I suspect MyFitnessPal has a more comprehensive food database.
FS doesn't list Arrowhead Mills chocolate cake so I just substituted a generic version. I will try the barcode feature and see if it works. I'm a tech pessimist and have the scars to prove it. I'm always pleasantly surprised when a feature works. I'm not going to the hassle of adding a product to the database by hand that I may never eat again.
Looks like my one hour phone consultation with the sports physiologist and nutritionist will happen later this month. He wanted to know if I had any way to measure body fat. Does a bear sleep in the woods? I have an Omron full body composition scale, an Omron handheld body fat monitor, an EatSmart scale, and calipers.
Five pound bag of split peas supposed to arrive Tuesday, part of my effort to up my fiber and protein count.
I can pretty much turn anything into a time suck. I'm gradually weaning myself from free Kindle cookbooks.
