Having gotten down to goal in May, I decided to try something new. Over the last 30+ years, my weight has fluctuated from 180 to 320. I was either gaining or losing 100 lbs at a time. My wife made the observation that with my ability to loose weight, why did I let it go so long before dieting again? My best friend of 40+ years made a similar comment. He said that I had the most self-control and the least self-control when it came to eating habits. So, I've decided to stay on my diet most of the time, but to give myself the occasional break and let the weight rise a little, then go back on plan and take it back off. Bill "Draglist" is a prime example of how that can work. Enjoy yourself, then get back on track and take it back off. I think that by deliberately allowing myself to gain a little with a firm plan to stop, and take it back off I'll be able to prevent the HUGE weight swings that I've had in the past. We'll see how it works, but I think that its a workable plan. Hope everyone has a great weekend.

I meant to ask you but keep forgetting. Your weight dropped like a rock this last time. Did you cut your calories way back, or what? I was amazed. I am still struggling.

Mom, I did eat a very low calorie diet at first. I ate under 1,000 calories per day comprised of High Protein, Moderate Fat, & Low Carbs. The fat gave me satiety, the protein kept me feeling full and low carbs kept from insulin swings that lead to hunger. After losing quite a bit, I upped my calories and began eating on a 16:8 (often 20:4) intermittent fasting regimen. I'm sure that a VLCD isn't for everyone, but I did find out a couple of things from doing it. 1) Your body adjusts to the lower calories and you don't feel hungry if you don't eat high glycemic foods. 2) Its actually very healthy and you feel much more energy after you adjust to the new food level. 3) Take supplements (vitamins and fish oil). 4) Raise your caloric intake slowly as you approach your goal weight. 5) Don't overdo the Protein for too long. Long term excessive protein can cause problems. I'm back to IF and plan to stay on it most days for the rest of my life. There is too much scientific evidence showing that the amazing health benefits from IF, beyond weight control, to not want to do it. I'll adjust my caloric intake up and down, as necessary, but will try to keep High Glycemic carbs to a minimum. Good luck with your efforts. If I can ever be of any assistance, don't hesitate to ask.

Thank you. I didn't realize you were eating low carb. I did think your calories were really low but now I understand your method. Well done. I am doing the same thing but mixing up the whole idea every week with 16:8 IF daily; however, doing a 24-Hour fast - once or twice a week ... and eating low carb mostly. I have days I go off plan and have to recover ... just like everyone else. So, maybe I am doing this right after all.

Why thank you ... both! I am relieved to hear you both say that. I will carry on, then. Yehaw!
