So, apparently I agreed to bike across Iowa in July…..

An old coworker of mine won passes to RAGBRAI and asked me if I’d be interested. From what I’ve gathered, it’s a 7 day, ~460 mile ride with several thousand riders across the southern portion of Iowa. I’m actually super excited for this. Can’t wait until I get my new bike this week, so I can really start training. I think if I put in around 150 miles/week I should be ready for it. This does give me the final push I needed to splurge on the expensive saddle I’ve had my eye on.

Just need to stick to the right nutrition plan and keep up my strength training in addition to all this extra cardio. Tracking everything will be extra important now to ensure that I’m hitting my protein targets and getting enough simple carbs on long ride days without going overboard.

My son-in-law rides RAGBRAI. Make sure you have a bike you are comfortable on, that's as important as any other factor. If you are not in shape now, you will be at the end of the run. Good luck and kick a**!

I've done some other week long rides in the area but never RAGRBAI. It is also known as the "Registers Annual Greater Beer Run Across Iowa". Make sure you have a quiet campsite if you plan to sleep through the night. :)

@Millerm, I had mentioned to my coworker that it sounded fun when he described it a while ago, and then yesterday he called me to say that he got us tickets! So I was going whether or not I wanted to, lol!

460 miles. Wow. That is impressive. The farthest I have ridden was 150 miles over 2 days. Boy, was my butt sore after that. Good luck.

Beware the rhubarb pie and homemade ice sold by church ladies at every town along the route. They are actually Darth Vader's disciples. I've gained weight on rides like this in the past LOL. :)

Cool Notelaine, great goal, sounds like a blast, training will be fun too..wishing you wind at your back and no flats!! Maybe a bit of rhubarb pie & homemade ice cream here and there can't hurt :-)
