They work by measuring your body's electrical resistance. Whether or not they are super accurate, I don't know, but more importantly, they will track the CHANGE in your body fat. I have a Healthometer body fat scale, and it works just fine.

I have one I purchased at ALDI and I really like it. I do not know the accuracy like The Bull21 said, but yes it does help seeing a difference in the percentage :)

I have one from the Tantia company.

I do but i cannot decide if it is accurate or not. It cycles through the informatin too fast for me to read and process. Not liking it.

I hwve a Tanita. Like it overall but since fat % varies with hydration I find it somewhat frustrating too.

I have a Tanita as well and the reading need to be tracked to get a more accurate number because it varies with hydration( and TOM). It is handy.

Thank you for all of the feedback! I decided to get one as a rough daily estimate. It showed a few percentages higher than when I was measured at my gym, but I'm pretty happy with it! I'm excited to watch how it changes over time.

Weight and measure the same time of day for consistency... ie right after you wake up and take care of business. :)

I've been certified for at least 20 years. I prefer using calipers but if you don't have those, any electrical impedence (omron/tanita) will do as long as you are very consistent in taking the readings. For example...perhaps first thing in the morning before you take a shower once a week on mondays or fridays only. Then over time you will see differences. The actual percent may not be accurate, but the difference in percent will be! :o) Good luck! Trust the mirror and your clothes too!
