I am so fed up with my weight completely yoyoing... I am trying so hard to eat properly.. I am sticking with in my calories and I have been told by someone that I should be eating more calories for what I burn off as my body is storing what I eat as fat... I am so confused with it all... I really don't think I am doing this right... If anyone could give me any advice over this I would really appreciate it.

Maybe they are right, maybe they are wrong maybe I have the wrong amount of calories.. I don't know :( I am feeling rather peeved right now. HELP!!!!

Who ever told you that you should eat more calories might be right alot of people stop losing weight because of eating to little . The body is very clever it slows the metabolism and starts to store more of what you eat as fat if it thinks its not getting enough nutrients , its also not just a case of staying within your calories as calories from fats, proteins and carbs are used by the body differently . You can find calculators on the net to tell you what percentage of fats, proteins and carbs you need daily .

I see you are also skipping breakfast do not skip this meal it sets your body up for burning fat through out the day , you have just woke from an 8 hour starvation period . Eat wholemeal bread instead of white bread lose the tea and try green tea with lemon , change white potatoes to sweet potatoes , get rid of the orange squash try sparkling water instead , you have far to many simple carbs in your diet

I agree. Since I was told to increase my healthy fats (nuts, seeds, oily fish etc) and protein (ffish, meat, milk, natural yoghurt etc) I have found I have much more energy and I loose weight. I think my body was starting to burn my muscle before that as it takes more calories to maintain muscle and my protien was too low. I have also learned that to look at my calorie defecit more than my rdi. I try to keep it at about -500 this means that however much or little exercise I do my body should be getting what it needs, also I have been told that if you have a larger defecit it can again cause your body to go into starvation mode. Sometimes its good to have a treat day or a rest from exercise, some people do this once per week, some a bit less frequently, as your body can get used to less calories and use less, if you have more on one day it can reset your body to use more calories again and make you loose again on your strict days. Sometimes you just need to experiment and mix it up a bit, im currently trying larger more protein and good fats breakfast, and each meal getting snaller through the day instead of our western idea of starting small and having our biggest meal at night. It keeps me alert and stopps me craving what I shouldn't have. And finally keep your eye on your weight loss graph, sometimes we loose, sometimes we gain but over time you will see a general trend in the downward direction. Sorry for the long post, I hope it helps. :-)

I was having the same problem for a long time and couldn't get my head around it. Recently I have almost completely cut out carbs. Trying to avoid potatoes and pasta and have cut out white bread completely. Now only having one slice of wholemeal bread a day for my breakfast. I have increased the amount of fruit and veg I am eating (trying to have at least 1/3 of my plate with veg.) the rest is protein chicken/ham or cous cous/quinao. I have also cut out all fizzy juice completely and upped my water to at least 2 litres a day and changed from regular sausages/burgers to vegetarian options (not everyone's cup of tea but I actually like them!) I have now lost just under a stone in 8 weeks. You need to be eating at least 1000 calories a day but also make the right food choices. I can have 1000 calories a day and feel absolutely stuffed just by having the right things. Silver nitrate is right you need to be eating breakfast as this kick starts your metabolism for the day. Set yourself a small attainable goal like half a stone by a certain date. I had a lot to lose but I am just taking it half a stone at a time, it is much more achievable and keeps you motivated. Treat yourself when you reach that small target . . half a stone off and you get yourself a new hand bag or that make up you've wanted for ages or a pair of shoes etc. Also don't feel like you can't have something. If you want something have it but everything in moderation. If you restrict yourself too much you will just fall off the wagon and binge (or certainly that's what I do!) Good luck and hope I've been helpful!

Up your calorie intake to 1500 . Take a good multivitamin & omega 3 fish oil.Try to drink enough water since our body will retain water if we aren't drinking enough. Also , weight loss will not be linear for most of us ,so be patient.Introduce some sort of exercise in your daily schedule(even walking for 45 mins or so can accelerate weight loss)

Seemingly different advice from different people. Here is a good general video that I think would be worth you watching: https://goo.gl/5UjBHx

I never eat breakfast and I walk during that time. But then I eat lunch and I had to increase my calories to go with my activity level. I also increased my protein and fat.

Everyone is different in so may ways. I try to remind myself that if I eat too many calories regardless of source (protein, carbs or fat) the body will store the excess as fat. Eat a healthy diet but not too much of anything. You should feel hunger pangs at some point every day. That shows your body is working and using fuel.

@Bunty145, people are different in so many ways, but they are similar in many more ways. Otherwise how would anyone ever give anyone else advise? For example, say I go to the doctor with a headache. I imagine the doctor would tell me take a paracetamol (unless they had reason to believe I was allergic or some such). Now Imagine I go to the doctor with a headache and the doctor says, "Well everybody is different, maybe you should try a paracetamol maybe you shouldn't maybe try an aspirin, maybe you should drink some more water, I am not sure, what works for some people might not work for others"

if merely cutting the calories isn't helping then the other option is to change the foods you eat - you will have to tweak the numbers of proteins, fats and carbs. its easier to do this if you eat less processed foods and you get better quality nutrients that way. This is where people can differ, some of us thrive on low/lower carb and others do better on low fat, for some its a case of going dairy free and others eat coconut from morn till night and the weight drops off!! it also depends on the amount and type of exercise you do. AARRRGGHH it is all so confusing i know! if i was you i would start just by getting rid of foods that have ingredient lists and concentrating on fresh veg, fruit, meat and fish and wholegrains. good luck

@Drullae, the thing is, if you don't know "what works for you", then you have to work from the assumption that your physiology is the same as everyone else's. There is no reason to work from the assumption that you are "special", don't get me wrong everyone is unique in terms of their personality and genetic make up, and by all means if you have 'discovered' that you thrive on a particular diet or lifestyle, then good for you. But I think it really comes down to your own personal preference, as opposed to ones body being so different that it just doesn't respond to nutrition in the same way as an average person does. If this were not the case then medical science would be completely stumped, in the sense that every drug discovered would be totally useless in that it would be only applicable to one, or a small group of people. This is not the case for medicine, and its not the case for nutrition either.

Of course our physiology is the same. But our lifestyles aren't. Our likes and dislikes are different. Our willpower is different. Our fitness levels are different. Our ages are different. I don't understand your point.

i'm very "special" i'll have you know!! ;) of course @Giles i agree, there are only a finite number of "diet styles" you can try, its the little tweaks within them that make them "special" to us as individuals. After all your diet Giles is different to mine and yet here we both are at our goal weights, you having implement a low fat/real food approach and me going the low carb/real food way. The thing we both have in common is a whole/real food approach which cuts down on hidden sugars in processed foods. this is why i suggested firstly going for fresh food as much as possible. from a good nutritional base it is easier to find what suits you.
2015年 06月 1日 投稿者: drullae
TBH @Drullae I am not trying to 'implement' a low-fat approach. I am trying to get a healthy balanced diet based on what I have read should be appropriate for an average human being. Some of the things I tried at the beginning of the year were a bit more blasé, but I wanted to shift the weight quickly. It worked, but in hindsight it was not ideal. I try to hit 25% fat, not because I am particularly fond of flax, nuts or chia, but just because that is the appropriate amount of fat that anyone should need. If anything the amount of protein I eat is still on the high side, but I like it. I am certainly not enamoured to the amount of frozen mixed veg that I eat, but it serves its purpose to fill me up and make me feel satiated.

Wow... So many idea's and its surprising how one person's opinion can differ to another.. Thank you all for your comments. Its nice to know that people are all here to help :) My main issue is my family on my Dad's side has a history of diabetes, my Dad had it (He passed away 2 yrs ago), his brother has it, his mother and all her siblings had it an one of her parents had it.. We don't know about before as it wasn't known much in the 1800's etc.. But when my Dad was diagnosed it was a case of high carb, low fat, low protein diet.. I have to be honest I think its probably changed quite a bit since I last lost the weight and got down to 9st in 1999 using the diet my Dad was on. My Dad did 99% of the cooking so it was all fresh then :) I am trying to elude the old diabetes by getting my weight back down.. I know I have a 99.999999% chance of getting it, if I don't get my act together. I will research more on diabetic diets and see if it helps my calorie intake etc.. But thank you all for all of your input and advice I do really appreciate it :D xx

I recently bought a new toaster, so I had to buy some strawberry jam and bread to test it out (obviously). Anyway I tried this Stute sugar free diabetic jam, because its lower calorie ;) Its instead full of sorbitol, which is an alcohol sugar which the human body metabolizes slowly. More than 44g a day causes a laxative effect :(. Anyway it tastes nice, not sure if its good for ones health or not. The toaster works very well BTW ;)

lglsheehan don't just research a diabetic diet as you are not a diabetic look for diets to help prevent diabetes :)
