I had the most awesome day.

First off, I went into the city to go see Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson. If you're into musicals and like the humor on The Daily Show (like I am) this is a great show. It's in previews right now (hence why I was able to get tickets) but wow, so much fun. Anyway, today was ALSO the Broadway Flea Market so that provided some entertainment as I walked around seeing what the different groups were selling. No, I didn't buy the cupcakes from the little kids at The Little Mermaid table but it was at that point that I realized how hungry I was.

I woke up late and while I had breakfast I didn't have lunch (unless you count the granola bar and fruit thing I ate on the way.) I was running late and didn't really have time for much more. So after realizing that I was hungry, the question came out with where to go and San Gennaro came out to me as the best option.

I wanted to go last night but there was no way I could've done the city two days in a row (I'm at least an hour away from Manhattan and that's in the absolute best circumstances.) But I figured, what the hell, I'll go walk around and get something to eat. So I had a slice of pizza and a giant sausage and pepper sandwich. I'm not going to say the sandwich was healthy but I knew I could have it as I ate very little at that point, was starving and plus, it's freaking good. Plus, I figured if I ate the sandwich I'd be full and hopefully wouldn't cave in for cannoli or one of the nine billion fried things.

I should point out my strategy worked brilliantly as by the time I was almost done with the sandwich I was stuffed and didn't want anything else (so I could pass by the nine billion other food things.) I did try a spoon of cannoli filling someone was offering (before said sandwich) so I know I would've gone to Ferrara's if I didn't eat and ordered a giant cannoli. (I'm almost afraid to look that up calorie wise.) Anyway, a little later I was craving something sweet and ended up getting sugar free chocolate Italian ice (instead of the cannoli again. Cannoli is very tempting to me.) Beyond the cannoli though I kept looking at caramel apples and then realized that I really wanted the apple and not the caramel.

Entered everything I ate the best I could. I figure I'm definitely fine in what I ate so there's no worries there. I also walked somewhere over 12,000 steps per my pedometer, not bad considering I woke up with horrible cramps this morning. (TOM has gone rogue on me). So I'm impressed.

Affirmations for today:
1) I can go to street fairs now without the fear of eating the wrong thing.

2) I make good choices even in situations where it's not easiest to do so.

Italian food is one of my weaknesses so while I can walk past say cotton candy and funnel cake, walking past pizza and cannoli is hard. I can go without fries or fried oreos (or the nine billion other fried things) but I had to absolutely have a slice of pizza and a sausage and pepper sandwich. Sure, I could've found some grilled chicken but damn it, I was in Little Italy (which is somewhere I really never go.) and I definitely had calories to play with so why the hell not? :)
