I was really expecting a weight loss today, not a gain. I have added in more exercise and more strength training. So I really thought about what is happening here. Over the last couple of weeks my eating habits have changed, my exercise habits have changed and my sleeping has changed. All of that I have control over, to an extent. I talked with my hubby yesterday about getting more sleep. It's his time of the year and he is outside till the last possible drop of light which means we are getting in bed an hour to an hour and a half later than normal. I haven't been overly hungry in the evening so I have just been eating a light snack instead of a meal, however I need to make sure that my foods all day are better than what they have been. This is definitely a journey as around each bend is a different thing to face and figure out.

Yup, keep hanging in there. You're close to goal.

You can still loose inches even if you gain some weight. It is probably a gain from the weight training.

You have been kicking ass to get to where you are. That said, in my experience, the leaner you get, the harder it is to drop. Exceptional measures may be required (of which you are obviously capable). As a point of reference, I outweigh you by 25# and would not expect to drop significant weight on 2100 KCAL and 200+ carbs per day.

Muscle is being added! Expect small gains. Go off how your clothes fit.

New exercise or a change in our current exercise regime can cause muscles to temporarily hold water to help them heal. Google "why the scale lies" for insight in to water weight fluctuations. Just keep it at and the scale will catch up.

Sleep is a good thing. I notice that my body just doesn't work right if I don't get sleep which is often. 7 hours is what I put on here but rarely get that. Maybe get a bit more shut eye?

I agree about muscles and water gain - trained muscles need repair time. I always weigh up 2-3 pounds after weight training days

Thanks for all the thoughts! I do want to get to bed earlier, I need more sleep for sure! I hadn't really thought about muscles retaining water, interesting. You all are the best!

What your experiencing is entirely normal. As you resistance train, especially in the first 6 months or so, you will gain muscle at a rate that nearly outweighs your fat loss. I experienced it quite a bit too. I started around 260 and sat at the 235 range for long periods of time, but in the meantime many of my lifts were increasing, so that was a good thing. Make sure to weigh your progress in resistance training and balance that with the mindset of your weight. Weight is only one measure, and a fairly fickle one, of your general fitness. Try to take basic body measurements too, thats where you truly see the transformation.

I'm new to this but I want to give you some encouragement. In Jan. I started working out like a soldier. After 6 weeks I got aggravated because I had only lost 5 lbs. My husband kept telling me that my body was toning up and he could tell it was working. I felt much better and had more energy. Win, right? Wrong. I let the stupid number on the scale defeat me and give me reason to sit down and eat a doughnut. If I had persevered I bet you would really be able to tell by now. This go round I say the scale is NOT my friend. I'm not going to weigh in nearly as much. Don't let the scale get you down. Pay attention to your increased energy and how you feel in your clothes. That's what I'm going to do.
