Happy Halloween! Did anyone see the Today show with all those candy-type desserts??!! Amazing!! While some of it looked good to eat, mostly I kept thinking how much sugar and carbs and calories were in even 1 little bite of those things. Gosh, did I ever really chow down on such things? Makes my head spin just thinking of it...

Today is another chilly one, so I opted for Stairmaster instead of walking and DH (day off) took the doggies instead. My routine today gives me higher intensity in 40 minutes rather than an hour of walking and the calories are about the same.

Yesterday was my first day of getting involved in the behind-the-scenes work for 2 important ministries in my church....Operation Christmas Child and Social Concerns. SC takes on the work of the annual preparation of food baskets for families in need, for both Thanksgiving & Christmas, as well as the set-up of, and distribution of the gifts from, the Angel Tree. Looks to be rewarding and not all that difficult, as the more hands there are make it easier on all involved!

Today, I will be catching up on the household stuff I didn't do over the weekend...bills, laundry, changing beds, etc.

Did you hear? The price of peanut butter will be jumping by as much as 40% due to a poor crop over the summer. That's good news for me and for anyone else who battles the butters - LOL! If it's more expensive, perhaps that will deter us from purchasing!

STAIRMASTER NOTES: Level 2 interval, 30 min. straight arm support needed on Hill #4 and 2/3rds of Heartbreak Hill; Max HR in the mid-150's, even w/support; recovery HR in the 140's on cool down hill and into the 120's at end. Manual program w/2 dots kept HR in the 130's.

Getting outside here in the great Northwest is still enjoyable; we have fresh fall air, good color and I can see the blue sky peeking through! You all on the east coast have been colder than usual for Halloween. I am thinking back to last Halloween (and several before) and how I always bought the candy I liked (chocolate of course), and chowed on many through the evening! What a poor way to start the holiday season! Tonight I'm having some sugar free cookies (have a great recipe, very gooey and satisfying and good enough to serve friends) and some low carb soup. It will be a great evening! Blessings on yet another day.

Back away from the desserts! Yes, I have those moments too, before I come to my senses. My BIL (the thrifty one) called me a couple of weeks ago on the peanut butter. I bought a big jar on sale for DH (who refuses to eat the natural style) but decided not to purchase any more for me. Just too addictive! Sandy - wanted to take a minute to commend you for the work you are doing. Especially this year there are a lot of struggling families out there.

Jennmorris....Lucky for me, I was on the Stairmaster at the time, so couldn't reach the TV. Now if I were a frog......LOL!

Hey Buffy, I thought of you when I heard the PB news. This new "work" I'm taking on is just another step into the work these committees do. We've always contributed the food items and gifts that have been requested, but this year I get to see how it all starts and I'll be there for the distributions as well. There ARE a lot of struggling families out there. And, for those of us doing OK, well, how much does 1 little can of beans, or a box of mashed potatoes, or even a canister of oatmeal cost us when we go grocery shopping? I've always wondered at how great an impact we could make if everyone purchased just 1 extra non-perishable every week when they do their usual shopping, and donated that item to a food bank, or similar charity. Could you imagine???!!!

That's just awesome Sandy, it feels good to help out the community and I'm sure there will be a lot of families in need who will be very grateful for all your group is doing. Have a great week! ~Carol

Hi Carol....I think most families are, but the lead coordinator mentioned that she has received a couple calls in the past from recipients who were much less than cordial. About what exactly? I'm not sure. I didn't pry and she did not say what the issue was. But I know that some people can find fault with just about anything, no matter what you do. You have a great week, too.

Sandy you are an inspiration, you are very near to goal, could be there by the beginning of the new year....not that far away. I commend you for helping out and as you say if we all added one item to our grocery every week it would make a huge difference. I know here in Michigan the food banks are struggling to keep them stocked, I find it very hard to think there are so many going without in the US, how do mothers manage when they can't make dinner tonight. I have helped out a few times on Thanksgiving in the soup kitchens it is a lot of fun, also a lot of very grateful people, it is good for the soul to make us realize how lucky we are to put food on the table. Have a wonderful week.

LOL, what is going on here, with all the licking of the screens? I hope that is as close as any of us come to the real thing! Actually, maybe that is not such a bad idea, actual it would be multi-tasking; taking care of the cravings (guilt free of course - not that I have any actual cravings), AND cleaning of the tv screen, no dusting required! LOL...maybe a little windex though, oh well! Sandy, I am glad you are working for a good cause through the ministries!

Yvonne, nothing like helping out on Thanksgiving (or anytime, really) to make you realize just how blessed we all are. With that high unemployment in MI, it's no wonder the pantries are stretched to the limit - and beyond. Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers for your procedure this week. Take care.

GG....just realized that the licking of the screens would be a great conditioning tool because most of the time when you touch it, you get a shock! It would be a sure deterrent to licking the decadent desserts pictured - LOL!!!

Sandy a big thank you......yes the pantries are stretched to their limits. Actually I was finding out about helping out more.....it breaks my heart we are truly blessed.
