Keeping a Daily Glucose log Fasting Morning and 2 hrs after dinner for a month. so far my average Morning Blood Glucose comes to an A!C or 5.7 Fasting and 5.87 2 hours after dinner. Lately the morning fasting reading has been a constant < 97 blood glucose reading. Something must be working. This all started when a blood test "Fasting" read 6,9 A1C and the Doctor went ballistic and said I had diabetes. Metformin 500 mg tablets One with breakfast and two with dinner seems to really be working as advertised. Keeping the Carb intake down is another aid to the drop in A1C. For me it is 120 to 160 gm a day broken up divided by 5 or 3 meals and two in between snack periods. Lettuce see if it holds up ?

Big Chuck, I was prediabetic for several years and my A1C kept going up. My doctor forced me to take 500 mg Metformin once a day, saying I was in danger of having a heart attack or stroke. I had always promised to eat right and exercise and lose weight, but I just didn't do it. I only cut out the sweets and walked in the grocery store once or twice a week. It wasn't enough effort and my A1C went up to 7.8 so my doctor increased the Metformin dose to 1000 mg. Then I started to do what I had promised to do. I increased my walking to 5000 steps a day (2.5 miles) and wrote down everything that I ate so that I did not go over my calorie limit or eat foods that were bad for me. Ten months later, my A1C was 5.0 and my doctor took me off the Metformin. I am sure that if you are determined about your weight loss and exercise you can lower your A1C and ask your doctor to reduce your Metformin. Or maybe stop it completely. Good luck!
