Just a quick update. First of all, I'm loving the new Bowflex!
My SO's surgery went well, although the break was considerably worse than they thought (from the ill-fated hiking trip several weeks back). They pulled out five bone shards, not two as expected, one of which was over an inch long and lodged in the joint. The doctor said it was a record. There were two incisions, one on the back of his ankle and one on the front. Now, we're on to the "go slowly insane from cabin fever" portion of the evening.
My mother-in-law was here for the first two days and she helped me a lot around the house. We stayed pretty busy and got a lot of work done while Nick got through the worst part of the recovery process. He wants to go to work on Monday, but I hope he decides not to if he still feels crappy. I'm getting him some crutches tomorrow so he can test them out; putting his weight on the leg is out of the question as of now, but he thinks he can handle work if he has crutches to help him get around. I'm not entirely sure why the doctor didn't give them to us to begin with.
I've been doing okay with my eating, but there were two outings to Pita Pit while we were running around town on errands, not to mention homemade chocolate-chip "recovery" cookies that taste just as good if you aren't recovering from anything, thank you very much.
Oh, and a pointless story: almost 24-hours after the surgery, Nick decided that he could finally eat a normal-sized meal, and requested chicken wings. I didn't have any in the house and didn't want to leave him to get some, so I ordered them from Dominos. You know, there are times when you can just TELL that the universe is trying to warn you that you're making a bad choice, and apparently ordering Dominos, even for someone else, falls into that category.
I stepped outside to call the restaurant while I checked the mail, and just as the pizza guy answered, the sprinklers turned on. I screamed, scaring the daylights out of Pizza Guy, but recovered and started to place my order. He asked what size order of wings I wanted, and I turned around to return to the house to ask, and promptly slipped in the gravel, screamed again, and biffed it on the curb.
They tossed in free cheesy bread for my trouble.
Damn free cheesy bread.
