My family has a history of weight issues. Both my parents struggled with weight. One of my younger sisters is around 320, my older brother is probably pushing 300.

I joined the Army in 1981, and when I got out of Basic Training I weighed about 168. That was the lowest I've weighed in my adult life. I spent 11 years in the Active Army, and 9 years in the Army National Guard. I struggled with my weight the entire time. By the time I retired in 2001 (3 days before 9/11), I weighed about 180. Since then I've piled on about 70 pounds. I'd just like to get back down to what I weighed when I retired.

My biggest problem, other than loving to eat/cook, is that my job (systems administrator) involves a LOT of sitting around. Also, since I'm the only one who drives in my family (my wife never got her license), when I get home I spend most of my time driving people around on errands. By the time I'm finished, I don't get much 'Me' time.

The dog we currently have gets walked about 6 times a day, and I'm usualy there for about 4 of them. I try and walk him each time to get in SOME exercise, but it's an uphill battle.

I'm hoping being a member of this site will help me trim down before I reach the big five-Oh.
