What are my FS friends doing about food during the holidays?
Wondering what all of you are doing about the holidays. Thanksgiving? I do the shopping and cooking for two households and then there is me. I'm on a different nutritional path than everyone else. I think I'll do a turkey for home, a rolled pork or lamb for across town. I'll do the veggies across town, a small about of starchy veggies for here at home. I'll do a type of baked savory stuffing across town and a pumpkin ginger something for their dessert. Here, I'll do a light cake, a cornbread/white carrot cake with pecan frosting. I'm still wondering about the lamb across town.
I love cranberry chutney or relish and I love savory stuffing. I dig pumpkin/sweet potato everything. I won't eat a lot of sodium but I'll exceed my current daily intake. I'll also eat things with added sugar.... Yes, I give myself permission. I'll just have to up my steps.
What are all of you doing about food this holiday season?

Trying to just do portion controlled serving, worked the first Thanksgiving go around, but still 2 more of those and then 6 more gatherings ending with New Year's. Good Luck To Everyone This Season, All You Can Do Is Try. I have made Kick A** Collards so far. I am not sure for the rest of the gathering though.

I made an almond flour bread, cubed it, dried it and made croutons for a stuffing last week. Sautéed onions and celery and sprinkled a few dried cranberries then drizzled in veggie stock before baking... it was so low in carbs and very tasty!!! Also got an organic gluten free gravy that was 2NC... then I stuck to squash and turkey and a little ham, it was honey baked soooo I didn’t want the extra sugar. I also ate some mashed potatoes and fig appetizers and kept it under 28NC!!

Also I added a ton of herbs to my almond bread so it was a perfect savory herby stuffing... everyone loved it

i think what it boils down to is portion control and application of some knowledge. I was told a while back that the stomach size is the size of your fist, that the brain takes about 20 minutes to get the "i am full" signal, that it takes the stomach 3 hours to process a meal (after which the body switches to "fat burning" mode). My plan is to A, enjoy the festive meals, B be mindfull, C eat slowly, D no alcohol consumption because it defeats all of the above, E put all the meal content (except desert) in one bowl (2.5 cups of food max), F drink only water, G for desert, favor fruits, H leave at least 3 hours between each meal where i eat nothing, no exception, I continue exercising, J maintain 7-8 hours of sleep.
Do not fear the storm, just enter it full face as you have full strength and total mindfullnes to go through this wonderful holiday season

I'm doing Keto for the Holidays! (that's a cookbook by Carrie Brown)
Best tip: eat before you go. Decide what you are going to eat and drink beforehand, and follow your plan. If you have favorites but can't eat them (such as high carb stuffing or mashed potatoes), either bring a substitute like mamamc7 suggested, or limit/ forgo them.

Decide before hand what you’re going to eat, drink plenty of water... if you are going to a party, have a high fiber low cal snack and water before...

Good advice Windybgood. My doctor says enjoy the holiday, but the next day get back to normal eating. I do not stress is the scale shows a 2 to 3 pound gain the next day. Two or three days later it will be off. Eating a small apple, or veggies and drinking water prior to the parties helps keep me on track. At parties I try to avoid chips and that seems to help.

Hope to be able to practice portion control. Just a bite or so of most of the food. Might be hard when it comes to pies!

I'm invited to a few different gatherings, so I don't eat a full meal anywhere. To the foody-est, I show up after dinner with autumn flowers and just drink coffee with everyone who's sitting around stuffed and drowsy. I've been doing keto for a while, so sweets and starches don't even look like food to me lately. I'm more concerned about having to ignore one hostess's last-minute requests that I bring something she knows I don't consume, she claims they're short on, and it always turns out there's more than enough of that item.

I love all your techniques. Low carb pumpkin pie? I mean, Keto pumpkin pie, Draglist? Also, Classy Sexy, Chris and Fritzy, portion control will come into play for me, too. Right? I still need to work on a good menu for both households. I want to sneak healthy in on them, the kind of healthy they will eat.

it's okay to eat, in moderation. eat a smaller breakfast and lunch to make up for it, try to keep macros right, and enter everything in as you eat it
