Thinking about starting to do meal preps. Does anyone else do this? If so does it work better for you?

I log in my meals for the next day in my diary (my diary is public) because if I have a snack (nuts, fruit, etc..) then I will just reduce my lunch or dinner portion(s) to accommodate my diet.

I usually prep parts of meals ahead, it helps me stay on track and gives me ready meals for lunches for work. This week the spring weather is too nice I've spent it all outside.

Funny you should mention meal prep -- tonight I've been looking at various sites for lo-cal, healthy crockpot recipes that I can freeze in individual portions. Until recently I'd been tossing a Lean Cuisine dinner into my lunchbox until I realized that the high sodium content was doing a number on me. Now I just need to find some decent recipes (nothing seems very appeal so far.)

Soups are always good. I use a lot of left overs in my lunch. No idea what type of plan you are on but since I live alone so I plan a couple meals during the week that leftovers will make great meals for work. Tomorrow will be a vegetarian lentil and walnut loaf with a side of homemade pinto beans and a chopped salad with cauliflower. I always have a piece of fruit or two for snacks.

I meal plan and prep. I find that I can grocery shop with ease and save on money as I am using all that is purchased. I don't have those moments of standing in front of the fridge wondering..and I don't just grab something while out because I don't know what I want, etc. I always clean veggies immediately upon bringing them home...if not, they might just sit in the fridge and be labeled as too much effort later. I also cook several chicken breasts and beef patties at one time. I usually make a soup that I can eat either as a snack or meal in my week. I find that meal planning and prep keeps me focused. I use a computer template to do my weekly plans and some weeks, I only need to change up a few meals. Very quick and efficient. Good luck.

Tried cooking meals in advance ... Hell, I have even tried buying food and planning to cook them on specific days. Issue I have is that when the day comes for chicken, what I really want is fish. When it is fish day, I am really in the mood for turkey burgers. The when I am ready for the thing I put off, it has gone bad and has to thrown away. So, I gave up meal planning. I just hit the grocery store on the way home from work. I suck. Of course it doesn't help that the kids will complain whatever I fix if it isn't cheese pizza, mac & cheese, or "real" hamburgers.

Takes time but pays off. Less thought and effort in the end. Better food choices, if you think ahead. Just my experience.
