"Ethnic" Fatter-days~ & Featured Foods~

So, today is my "fatter-day" and my mother and I will be enjoying a little ethnic gourmet later this evening. Actually, we'll be eating Ethiopian food for dinner, which I love! I've been craving it for a while and there is a wonderful Ethiopian restaurant not far from downtown, which provides an amazing veggie/meat combo for two. I will say Fatsecret needs to expand their listing of ethnic foods. The only listing I found for Ethiopian was the injera bread and I can guarantee you, no one in the states is going to eat just plain American style Injera bread without the special Ethiopian curries to go with it. Injera is not like a tortilla or even Naan. It's spongy consistency does not make it interchangeable with other ethnic foods. Fortunately, fatsecret app does let you add foods not in their database and I was able to find the calorie count for the combo platter on another site.

Ethiopian is actually cheap in calorie so depending on what Mom and I get for dessert, I will likely be able to keep my calorie count under 2,500 this fatter-day making for the second planned splurge day this month I've managed to keep my calorie count under 2500!

And, no worries I won't be posting my "Fatter-day" feasts. Which, brings me to my next topic. How do I feel about all these "featured" foods on this site? I confess, my brain goes three ways about it. On the one hand, since we're all on different eating plans, it seems kind of cruel to post pictures of foods some people can eat and some people are restricted from on their plan.

On the other hand, the truth is if we have any hope of maintaining weight loss in the long term, we need to get used to being around and seeing foods that are not in our weight management meal plans, regardless of cravings, and without indulging. I can rail about our obesogenic society until the cows come home, but we all know the food industry is not changing their ways anytime soon. So, the changes need to happen inside of us. And, perhaps that starts with exposure WITHOUT indulgence.

And, lastly I confess it is kind of interesting to see what people eat or the many creative ways folks use to "spice things up" within the limitations of their plan. Some of the presentations are really nice and make my mouth water immediately. Some, definitely curb my appetite for anything if you know what I mean! lol. But, regardless we all have unique palettes when it comes to taste and what we enjoy eating. It's kind of nice to see the range in diversity of recipes people are using to approach weight management and still enjoy food.

Anyhow, cheers to healthy bites & good eats!
Have a wonderful Thursday, everyone!
