Ok, so I've been quiet for a bit. I wasn't seeing the results I wanted to and each time I stepped on the scales, the number was going up. I didn't take a break from my diet, but I did step back and look at what I've been eating and recognized that I'm just having too many cheats. My carbs have stayed higher than I wanted them so I'm introducing protein supplements and further reducing my starches and carbs. Last weekend was a complete blowout though. My sister came to stay for the weekend and while usually we're not awful about what we eat, this weekend, time was simply against us and we found ourselves painfully hungry with no good options. Yeah that's right, McDonald's for breakfast, Mexican at San Felipe for lunch and some good ole greasy Waffle House for a very late supper. Really, that I managed to lose any weight at all is amazing.

To aid in my efforts, I'm now seeing a nutritionist. Really I hadn't planned or expected to have such an opportunity but Mom & Dad signed up to see someone and Dad refuses to follow her directions so she's allowed his fees to be transferred to someone else in the family. My sister and her daughter would really do well to go to these sessions but we couldn't convince them to try it so I drew the lucky straw.

Now this is tough. I'd already cut my calorie intake in half when I started trying to drop some weight, but I thought I was doing fairly well on my own. Since I'm journaling my food intake any way and trying to go as natural as possible, I thought seeing a nutritionist would simply be a confirmation of my already good plan. Man was I wrong. To bring your body to a base line level, the first week seeing the nutritionist requires a cleansing period... no sugar, no salt, no oil, no carbs and way more protein supplements than I've every consumed in my life. I'm stupidly honest too so the few screw ups that I've had, I recorded and of course, got fussed at for. Sooooo my cleansing session continues as I try to only eat those items on my acceptable list.

I have to say, this has given me a major appreciation for balsamic vinegar and glaze. I use this stuff to cook with, to dip in, to replace my salad dressings and steak sauces. I've found that salmon grilled in the air fryer with herbs, vinegar, lime, pepper, onions and summer squashes is utterly delicious, extremely filling and so quick to fix. As long as I'm home where I can cook, the restrictions are easy. It's when I'm with family and have to go out to eat that I'm getting my butt kicked.

With that said, here we are at another weekend and this one too is planned around family. I'm going to try harder this weekend and hopefully be able to stick to my slotted menu.

Good luck everyone and happy munching... TGIF!
