What an AWFUL day!!! I did as I said and went to the gym. That is a good thing and i am proud of myself but that lead to the bad stuff...

I grew up swimming. We had a house on the lake and I would swim and water ski constantly. I was certified as a lifeguard although I never had a job. Bottom line was - I was a fish! Loved the water!

Well I went to the gym and thought i would go for a swim. What is the harm in that - it is something I know I can do right? WRONG!! There is nobody there thank the good lord and I thought I could just jump in and swim a bit. It is an Olympic size pool I think and it was totally quiet. Nobody could see me and I was pretty happy about that.

So I start to swim and figure out pretty quickly that I am not a fish anymore. Can't even call myself a whale anymore. I am more like a Hippo. All you can see is my eyes and nose sticking out of the water...
So I swim 2 laps. Yes 2. So sad. Everything I had hurt! My neck and my back were killing me. I guess it has to do with bending in the water a bit but those artificial parts of mine were whining.

Anyway, I figured I was wet so I ran in the water for 5 mins and then I went to the deep end and treaded water for 5 mins. i tried to concentrate on the sissor kicks so my inner thighs might get some benefit. I just can't begin to tell you how bad I feel. I knew I was fat old and out of shape but really... this is just wrong!! Oh well I forgot about the best part...

So I sat in the sauna a little bit but it was not really hot and I decided to move to the whirlpool. I sat there a while and enjoyed the bubbles. I tried to sit in a way that the bubbles would actually sooth my certain to be sore legs and arms. Well when I got out, the sinking hit me. Yep I pretty much passed out right there. Had to lay down on the bench and try to get things back together. I did not sit there longer than 10 mins in the tub but boy did it throw me for a loop. So I finally made it to the point that i was not blacking out and feeling as if i was going to wretch and decided that I needed to get dressed. So I start trying to take off my bathing suit top. it is one of those 2 peice things that does not really show any skin. The top has something like a skirt on it. Anyway, I can't get the damn thing off. I pulled and pulled and pulled and it would not come off. it was stuck. I was still trying to pass out so I laid back down stuck top and all and hoped nobody came in there. Finally I got it off and got changed. As i was leaving, the nice little boy that works there was chatting me up and told me to come back more often. how sweet was that?? He is real cute and real young but he was nice enought to chat with me :) I appreciated that.

Things I learned after this fiasco:
1. my bathing suit was fine for a 220 pound woman but is not meant for a 182 pound one.
2. bring my own towel - the one they have leaves much to be desired
3. bring a hair thingy so I can put my hair back and not smother myself in the pool
4. bring a brush or comb - I look a bit rediculous with my wet hair
5. bring water!
6. stay away from the hot tub!!!!! I kknow I will not learn tis lesson very quickly - i love the hot tubs :(
7. make sure someone knows where I am so if I drown someone will know to come look for me as there is nobody at the club!

And yes - 8. I learned I better get started on a fitness routine or it will be so much harder as I age.

Tomorrow I am planning to go for a walk in the field or even go back to the gym.. Day 1 of 21 right??

Girl, get your butt back in that pool tomorrow and do 4 laps... and the next day 6 and the next day 8.... and eventually you will get fish status in time. I am a certified ex guard/swim instructor/syncro/aqua arobics instructor/lifesaving instructor trust me it hurts the first time I went back after 8 years I thought I would die.. take water is a MUST and take it slow, even if you do 2 laps... stop for 15 and do 2 more just progressivly get more and more..

Or you could do two laps, go tread water for a bit of a rest, then two more laps. When i first started swimming I had a 91 year old man beating me, not with speed, but the amount of laps he could do. If someone that old can do it, you can too.

Icy, same thing.. the guy is 90 years old and did twice as many laps as me when I started... and he does it twice a day, I told him if he could do I could too there was no reason I couldn't.

i'd give just about anything to hop in a pool right now. it's warm here today and i could chill out for a bit. but you did it - that's all that matters :)

Well I am going to do my dead level best to do some activity tomorrow and Sunday and so on... May go to the pool tomorrow afternoon. The cute little guy said it is generally slow there after about 10 AM so I will try to make it back. Different bathing suit! They are closed on Sunday but I have to drive 8 hours to NC so that will not matter. now to find a place in NC.... it can be done :) And honestly, I want to be the 90 year old person swimming laps - wrikly skin and all. I know I can do this... you guys are great!

Wow....you had quite the day. Get back in there tomorrow and do 2 more laps, rest, and drink water. Wish I could swim......I do love the pool but... can only doggy paddle. Keep up the good work! Going out for my walk now.

Elizabeth, sorry but I was laughing so hard...simply because that sounds so much like something that would happen to me, right down to fighting the swim suit top! Wow what a day you had! I am so glad that you didn't pass out. Hope your weekend is AWESOME times 3!!

It gets easier! At least that is what everyone keeps telling me. Lol I thinkk its great you took the first step in working out. If you ever want to compare aches and pains I'm on day 3.
