I'm back. Last week was busy. Hoping next week is a little better. this is truly water weight following a day of limited access to my normal foods but lots of exercise early on.
I got to go to the zoo before opening to the public and we got to watch them doing feedings, etc. Learned how to administer a tranquilizer blow dart (keeping this skill in the archives) and some other fascinating stuff. I haven't been on a proper visit since 2018 (doesn't count running inside to shop for people or cocktails) so there were even more changes. Almost all for the better, they've been working on creating realistic habitats for all the animals and what they've done is pretty amazing. We didn't cover the whole thing because by the time the gates were open, we were spent. 3.6 miles before 9AM on some of the steepest hills in San Diego. I used to walk inside the zoo in the evenings before I had dogs. I kinda miss that, but not enough to leave them at home.
The downside is that breakfast was a mix of a side of onion rings and tater tots with coffee; we had vouchers and neither of us brought cash. I would have had soda except that was - no kidding - $9. I followed "breakfast" up with protein shakes and a preformed turkey patty for dinner. The salt was strong in that one, cannot wait until those are gone, never again, will make my own. 3.6 miles in the morning, another 2 with the dogs last night. Was doing to swim, but ran out of time and the wind was a bit overwhelming in the afternoon. I don't think it was the onshore either, it was too strong. TL/DR: I don't do well eating crap. I was ravenous in the middle of the night.
One of the more interesting tidbits I learned yesterday is that opossums only live about 1-2 years. Sad for such a cool creature that does such beneficial stuff. Learned that in the new children's zoo portion that they just finished during the plague.
Some pics of a walk not starring my dogs. A rarity in itself and it was strange walking by the entrance without them. Enjoy and happy Sunday. Weekend rules as soon as I hit enter.
A note about that cute polar bear. She has a reputation for luring in the wild birds for snacks. She is fast. We watched her go from "sleeping" to action. Tastes like chicken.
Fritzy, if you read this, I think your picture upload problem might be that the size of the image is too large. Just ran into that posting to this. I shrank them down to make it work.
