The Nutrition Strategy That Holds off the Grim Reaper
Eight hours of sleep with one wide-awake episode. Morning plank and ten minutes first thing in the morning on the Air Walk Trainer to burn off glycogen. Today was an up day on the Alternate-Day Diet (eat all I want) because I've got food prepared. I decided to drop an order of 12 cans of pumpkin from Subscribe & Save. I don't have any recipes lined up to use it even though it is the season. Cardio: one hour on the Air Walk Trainer plus five minutes every hour on the Air Walk Trainer to counter the effects of sitting. Steps: 1,122. Installed a PowerCube on the outlet near the kitchen counter. Now that the Pizzazz Plus is off the counter, I have the room for more appliances and need more outlets. Didn't do any organizing in the kitchen today. Total time to date: 4 hours, 15 minutes. I lost momentum today. I hope to get back on track tomorrow.

The power cube looks like a good idea. Seems there's never enough plugs in the kitchen.

Ditto... my old kitchen had a power strip under the cabinets... I think I'll figure out a way to install another one here.

PS .. how ironic that 'gaining weight' to me has taken precedent over death, LOL. I saw the link and didn't even associate grim reaper with dying. Good article. Have you ever heard of Raw Fiber? I add that to my smoothies. One scoop = 9 grams.

Interesting posts, thank you for sharing. I unplug any kitchen appliance I am not using. I had read an article on how much anything plugged in still uses electric and are referred to as "electric pirates". I prefer to have my entertainment things such as TVs, DVRs, computers, stay plugged in because I hate the "wait" times. I use surge protectors on all my electric outlets.

I have power strips that I shut off. I do not shut the one for the TV off becus it takes a long time to restart it, and then I have to reenter all the pass codes.

Actually, kattay, it's the reverse. Kitchen appliance don't use any power when not turned on except for clock functions. It's instant-on electronics such as tvs, cable boxes, DVRS, DVD players that use power. EPA: What is Standby Power and what does it have to do with vampires?
Standby power is the energy used by some products when they are turned off but still plugged into a power/wall outlet. While this standby power sometimes provides useful functions such as remote control, clock displays, and timers, in other cases it is simply wasted power as a result of leaving an electronic device or power adapter plugged in. The devices causing this waste are referred to as energy vampires because these products are slowing sucking energy from your home while not providing any useful function! In addition to your home office and home electronics equipment, chargers for cell phones, ipods, power tools, etc also suck energy from your home when they are plugged into an outlet, even if they aren't charging.
Is standby power significant enough to worry about?
Yes, the amount of energy used by products when they are in standby mode is significant. The average U.S. household spends $100 per year to power devices while they are off (or in standby mode). On a national basis, standby power accounts for more than 100 billion kilowatt hours of annual U.S. electricity consumption and more than $10 billion in annual energy costs.

wholefoodnut, I have a Monster green power strip with a surge protector that turns off all my standby home entertainment electronics: tv, streaming box, speakers, DVD player. I don't have any access codes to worry about.

Thanks for the info Chris. Seems its like other "experts" that do the articles on food. Depends on how they interpret information. Even on my chargers, I don't plug them in until I need them to charge up something. Rather spend my money on something I can actually use.

I usually have my chargers plugged into a power strip that is turned off when not in use.

kattay, the problem with unplugging and plugging is possible wear and tear on the cord
