When it rains, it pours. It now appears that I have an inguinal hernia, possibly from the sumo squats I've been doing. Needless to say, I'm going to stop doing those. I don't know whether I should stop doing the strength training entirely. I assume that the Air Walk Trainer, hasn't caused it. However, I felt some pain yesterday in my side while rowing. I've been rowing for three weeks. I may knock that off and stick with the Air Walk Trainer for a while.
The hernia was quite small for a long time and I didn't know what it was, possibly an enlarged gland. But it really was noticeable today when I stripped to weigh myself today. I want to gather more information, complicated by the lack of good books on the subject. I don't know how much of my strength training program to stick with. I did order a support. I'm hoping that since it was quite small for a long time, with support it will heal. The good news is that I continue to lose weight, which may help.

Men's Health says that losing weight can help, so at least there's that. The hernia isn't visible when I lie down. I normally don't feel any pain from it, which I gather from the terminology means it's "passive." I'm definitely going to knock off the rowing since I was briefly feeling pain in my side the other night. The good news is that walking isn't contraindicated, nor upper body exercise. I wouldn't think ankle weight exercises would be out although I suspect squats and maybe standing presses and deadlifts. There's some anecdotal evidence of hernias from rowing. I don't want to lose momentum exercising. I hope I can work around it so I can continue. I suppose I should be grateful it took so long to show up. Twenty-seven percent chance of getting one so I should be grateful I dodged the bullet for so long. I read about a lot of younger men getting them.

My son was born with one on each side. He did have surgery, not to scare you. But he did fine and the scar is barely noticeable.
