Another 3.3 miles with doggies along for 2.6. It was a beautiful day, clear blue sky and temps in the low 60's when we went.
Another aspect of a great day is that a contractor showed up when they said they would!!!!
This afternoon, I faced the demon and WON! A couple at the thrift shop where I volunteer, were celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary today and so they brought in a HUGE, BAKERY CAKE with all that wonderful full buttercream frosting. I'm assuming the part about the frosting, as I had not one single bit of it. I LOVE bakery cakes when they're done right with that frosting, but I know it's not worth the aftermath. This would have been an unplanned splurge and I don't want any unplanned splurges, as that lets others decide when I'm off and on plan, instead of me. (I may revisit that idea after I get to goal, but for now, I'm supposed to be in charge!) A couple of people urged me to "get some cake and punch," but I held firm. I wished the couple my congratulations and talked for a bit, but then got busy to work in another area so I wouldn't have to be near the cake or be thinking about it.
It really is great to celebrate something as monumental as a golden wedding anniversay. It's rare to begin with and getting rarer with each passing year, I'm afraid. My own parents achieved their golden anniversary but, sadly, neither was in a position, health-wise, to really even be aware of its significance. So, I'm especially glad to see couples who can stay together for 50 years and celebrate it with full awareness. I believe Nelson's parents (Gizmonel) recently celebrated this event as well.
