I eat nuts everyday. I don't know why you couldn't put them in a smoothie.

I've heard of nut butters, not nuts, but I suppose you could. Trying won't hurt. It would probably give it more of a rough texture. I drank an elaborate coffee drink in the past (it had ice-cream in it, so it was like a smoothy) that had ground, chocolate-covered coffee beans in it. It was pretty good :)

Haven't done it with nuts but I have thrown in uncooked oats. If your blender is powerful you probably won't even know they're there.

If you want to add nuts to your smoothies, I recommend soaking them in spring water overnight to get them soft and easily blendable. I make all sorts of "cream-like" sauces and beverages with raw almonds and cashews instead of dairy.
