edit: I saw another TV documentary about how eating less than you're "supposed to" makes you live longer and healthier. They didn't elaborate about how to eat less while avoiding malnutrition though. The program was based on many observational studies of certain world populations which had an out-of-the-ordinary lifespan and mentioned the fact that they all had in common eating less than western civilization has gotten us used to. There are some people throughout the world who have independently decided to live on less calories and the program has produced these people and demonstrated that they had an exceptional health. I was particularly amazed when I saw a 59 year old woman who never ate dinner and, honestly speaking she looked more like 39. She had a perfect figure and looked much younger. They have also mentioned clinical studies performed in animals in which the animals who ate all they wanted (this was the control group) lived about 75% of the lifespan of another group which calories were restricted. Of course that, this might be somewhat incompatible with gaining muscle mass and eating lots of protein lol. I saw this documentary in DW channel (it's a German channel). I rarely watch TV though. YouTube is my TV lol.

I wish I could see this to criticize it. Lol! I do however feel like many of us eat too much. :)

With out seeing the show its hard to really commit but I will say the general population eats more calories then they need. Though I feel that its a lack of proper education rather than willful over eating.

I read some articles on it too. It's interesting, but don't think I could live that way. I do think we all eat too much though, lol!

It's a shame that I don't know the title but I will try to find it Iamachristianjesusfreak! :) It's possible that we eat too much. That is definitely true when we get fat. But even for non-fat people, it's possible that eating less will have its benefits. I don't know heheh. :)

That's definitely true n1elkyfan! I will try to find the documentary also because there was some information I missed. I couldn't absorb it all in one sip heheh. I agree that it's an education thing. And then education becomes a physiological routine. It becomes almost a need :)

I'm not sure I could also Suzi! The prospect of not eating late, for example is terrifying to me ahahah :D I have to have something to eat before going to bed ;)

If you find the name of the documentary, please mention it. I would watch it. :)

Thanks Deb! :) I'm going to try to find it right now but I'm not getting my hopes up since it doesn't look like those more popular documentaries (from the BBC for example) The worst of it is that, I've watched in a couple of days or more. If I had checked the channel's programming, I could have possibly get its name, but their programming only shows from the present day forward :P

with any luck, they will repeat :)

This is their programming link by the way, http://tinyurl.com/p2ztoag I'm guessing that this documentary might have been under one of those shows with fixed name (judging by the looks of the programming table which is very repetitive) and the title of the documentary itself, probably only showed while watching it. :P

This is an article I found on the same subject, while searching for this documentary. It appears there are loads of articles on this subject: http://tinyurl.com/om9c92e . I will keep searching :)

It's worth mentioning that, in this article, they reinforce the idea that, not only epidemiological studies prove that calorie restriction has these benefits as molecular studies also point to the same results :)

I think I saw the same documentary a few years ago. About sustainable abstinence or something like that because it can cause the cells to shed less often or something or nother. Very interesting stuff.

Wouldn't it be funny if scientists concluded that, not eating at all would make you live forever? ahah Just a joke ;)

It's possible that it was the same CalynLZ although I cannot be sure. I was doing something at the time and was only paying partial attention to it. :) Thanks!
