SECOND ENTRY FOR TODAY (5pm):
OK, so a new scale is in order, as 2 new fresh batteries made no difference on the old one. We even took it apart to see if there was something obvious, like a loose wire, that might be the problem. I searched online and found that this sudden death is a problem several people have had! And, it's not just this model (SC 400) but some other HoMedics models as well. Seems like the scales do very well for about 2-3 years and then they're dead. Some people reported trying to contact HoMedics customer service via the email address on the scale itself and getting no response whatsoever.
FWIW, I was very happy with this scale during the time it worked....extremely consistent readings.
So, off to K-Mart we went and picked up a basic digital Taylor model on sale. I've had very good success with Taylor products for the pool and for our weather station, so we'll see how the scale does. I'm a bit worried that it will show me heavier tomorrow morning beyond my normal fluctuations....as in having to lose those pounds all over again. (Just what I need, even MORE time in the 180's.) Oh well, nothing I can do about that, as the old scale just doesn't work. Keeping my fingers crossed for tomorrow morning. I suppose it could even weigh me lighter???!!!
