This post is directed to those folks who post photos of doughnuts, brownies, pizza etc. I’m curious what benefit you gain when posting those photos. Obviously most of us on this website are trying to avoid those types of foods. I do understand that many folks are in maintenance and can enjoy those foods. But this website is intended for healthy lifestyle and weight loss. I take no issue with you eating those things, but would like to understand your point of view. Again I ask, what Is your benefit. There are very few places today that we can go to avoid the advertisements of unhealthy foods. Just curious.
I’m sorry, I just saw someone else ask this same question. More or less.

Just last night I was at a Christmas party and they had a "Donut Room". Literally. With boxes of extravagant donuts laid out. It was really fun to see, but I'm not going to eat a giant donut. It's not really a willpower thing. I've learned that I don't have any willpower. But I am a little more in touch with my feelings. I can look at a donut and think "gorgeous" and "if I eat that I'm going to feel so crappy in 30 minutes when I blood sugar crash". I don't want that feeling. I want the feeling of keeping my body chemistry in a good place. Anyway that's what works for me--I feel like I'm "choosing" not "denying". Having said that, it's different at a party where there are other things to enjoy--people, decorations, other food, etc. So I definitely don't keep "naughty foods" in the house. As I said, I don't have any willpower :)

I found this post hilarious, sorry. I completely agree with melissatwa. This is not even a "health food conscious" site. Its a calorie-counting site. And its about long term sustainable weight loss. Not quick diets. Why would we hide what we really eat on a daily basis? Then we would be being fake. And to what benefit? We have to learn how to eat the foods we love, but in moderation. That's the only way the weight loss will stick long-term.

The vegans have to look at meat and the carnivores have to see all the salads. So why is posting so called unhealthy food bad? Like I said in the other post I like food so I like to see it all.

Pictures are posted in journal entries. You can choose to see only people you follow, and if you don't like what they post you can unfollow them. It's just like other social media, people post what they want.

I have actually never posted a picture however Sarah if I knew that it bothered anyone I wouldn't do it, I really could not do it. There are enough pictures on the internet for those who need to look at them to help them through weight loss.

Most are on here for healthy lifestyle, but everything in moderation. For the record I’m gaining not losing, everything is not about weight loss.

I totally agree with you on this, when I started fatsecret awhile ago, everyone posted healthy eating stuff and just encourage healthier living. I get annoyed too ,but what you going to do.. different world now we live in. Ignore it and try to focus on making good food choices. I gained 9 pounds thinking heck yeah , I;m going to have myself a salty pizza and some candy and cakes. like some people on here.. Stupid me that I can eat that stuff and controll myself.. bah humbug!! Got to start over and try to lose to get back to where I was...lol...

Simply putting TW for a trigger warning when you post a so called naughty food would be respectful, that is something to consider

I say just don't let it bother you. I can understand your sensitivity and actually there was a day when I was like "HUH?" How come I see cakes and pies and cookies and donuts on a health app?? Eventually I accepted it all because its not really a bad thing. Folks here are sharing all types of foods for many reasons. If I was already in maintenance, I would be proud to say I splurged by having a bagel or an ice cream cone...without gaining weight. All these types of foods (that I actually avoid for my own reasons) are still foods that we ALL can enjoy in moderation. Focus on you and your lifestyle and just don't let it bother you. Heck, it can make ya stronger :)

I wondered the same thing when I started out, but some people on here are actually trying to gain weight, some diets are high in things you wouldn't eat on your diet, and others post to celebrate. Once you get into the swing of things it becomes less of a double-take. In fact you glide right over them and focus on the salads, soups, stir fries and even get ideas and recipes. Someone posted a picture of an egg and bacon breakfast today that brought me up short (I love bacon). So I sighed, put at little extra honey on my fruit and yogurt, and hope my discipline is reflected on the scale in the next few days.

Sarah, I agree with you. It doesn't help me with my diet when I see pictures pizza, donuts etc. posted.

I'm with kissangelgirl on this one. I'm here to gain weight and I actually love that wonderful sugary, fatty fried food.... however the longer I live a healthy "lifestyle" (to me a "diet" infers a temporary departure from my current lifestyle...), those foods "let go" of me. I remember what they taste, smell and feel like with pleasant memories.. like a good friend that's moved away that I "visit" occasionally.... hahaha. Maybe think of those things as a reward for when you reach certain goals but I've found balance and moderation in all things works better for me. Besides, if sharing a picture of what someone else eats and enjoys, no matter WHAT it is, makes them feel good then what should anyone else care? We don't have to eat, look or think about it... well. too much... lolol.

Actually, everyone here has wonderful insights and experiences (lessons for us to learn from) that are invaluable. To me, it started off as just an app to track my calories but thanks to all the wonderful human beings here I've found it really is a community. I personally am grateful to see I'm not alone in the various struggles with support, camaraderie and motivation. Thanks for bringing up the topic❣👍🤗

Some photos look to me like they are intentionally provocative. I have seen members that have serious weight and health issues and i believe that such photos make them feel bad about themselves for not being able to control their portions like others do. Obviously this forum is not a good place for some persons having eating disorders.

Itsy said it best. Also, if these pics make you binge, maybe you need more and more practice looking at them to strengthen your willpower. I'mm here to help with that ;). Also, like others mentioned, you can lose fat while eating them. That's exactly what I have done. I am in much better shape now than when I ate "clean". CICO. Moderation.

Tassos ... I totally agree with your statement! But I agree with almost all the statements on the thread. 🤷🏻‍♀️😊

Thanks to all for responding to my post. I think I understand your point of view to include sweets and other not so nutritious items in our diet routinely. BTW I do eat those things. I try to use moderation, but am not always able to control myself. I am not offended by these photos. I particularly liked the comment that their photos help them remember every delicious bite. I’m an older gal, and like many others have tried every diet out there, but still manage to be obese. I’ve bought into every brain washing idea for healthy lifestyle, mindfulness,, abstinence and sustainability. I’ve done the exercise routine. So thank you all, I do know about the “settings” button. I enjoy this site everyday for the support and love. 🍩🧁🥧
