Sharing! Because there are a lot of people in my shoes!

On May 15 I was diagnosed as full blown diabetic! Boo! Several years ago I lost 45 pounds. I had gained all the weight back and in May had an A1C of 8.4! Sigh!

So since May 15 I have lost 16 pounds! My blood sugar was over 250 the first time I took it, 175 in the mornings, and is now is usually under 135 in the mornings, usually under 155 during the day. I'm hoping it will still come down more.

I had been falling asleep at the drop of a hat, including behind the wheel! I am so proud that I was able to drive 8.5 hours today.

I am trying to avoid medication. In fact, I refused it. It is my belief that. Dangerous highs and lows averaging to an acceptable A1C is not good enough to keep the body from suffering debilitating effects of diabetes. I hope I can justify my thinking at my next doctor's appointment in mid September by demonstrating an acceptable A1C and knowing it was due to more level daily blood sugar numbers.

The goal is not weight loss but good blood sugar. Hopefully weight loss will be a great perk! So, this is a permanent adjustment of my thinking. Low carb all the way. Less than 75 most days and always under 100. My body will not handle more. I know now and will remain vigilant. It was a hard lesson to learn.

What dietary guidelines did you follow when you lost 45 pounds?

Hi Darla, are you type 2? Reversing T2D can be done. I changed my WOE to low carb (20 to 30 grams per day) two years ago, brought my A1c down to normal (5.6) within 4 months / 25 lbs loss.

Great job. You are right, it's all about the blood glucose levels being managed in a healthy, sustainable manner. Low carb all-the-way. Keep trimming those carbs down a little at a time. I am doing the same. Great success to you and all your followers.
