Well, the Lord sure works in mysterious ways. After I wrote my journal entry yesterday, I decided that I needed to read a little bit more in my emotional first aide book and you'll never guess what it was about? Healthy ways to deal with stress. Just what I needed. Thought I'd write the list for everyone else to look at also just in case you may need it like I obviously do.

1. talk to a friend or family member about your feelings
2. Do a social activity that doesn't involve food
3. Go to a movie, play, concert or sporting event
4. Take a leisurely drive and listen to music
5. Go to the library, mall or bookstore
6. Go to the park with the dog, kids, friend or alone
7. Meditate
8. Use progressive muscle relaxation tapes
9. Exercise
10. Do some stretching
11. Write your thoughts down in a journal or diary
12. Use the computer
13. Get involved in a hobby or craft
14. Reward yourself for all your hard work with something new
15. Plan a vacation
16. Get involved in a home improvement project
17. Do some volunteer work
18. Doodle, draw, or paint
19. Learn a new skill, sport or language
20. Make a list of all the things you will do once you meet your weight loss goal.
21. Listen to relaxing music
22. Use positive or motivating self talk
23. Take a hot bath
24. Do some research on your home town and do some tourist activities
25. Practice deep breathing exercises
26. Close your eyes for a few minutes and visualize a safe, relaxing place.
27. Schedule time for yourself so you don't feel rushed.
28. Simplify your life whenever and wherever possible.

I thought some of these were really good ideas. I actually do use some of these at times. I usually don't worry about silly things when I'm kept busy. It's when I have down time that I start playing the "what if...." tape in my brain. That tape always seems to get me in trouble. Worrying never solves anything, but sure does cause a world of trouble sometimes. I haven't started exercising yet. I had every intention of starting on Monday, but I had a late meeting which prevented me from going. I should get off work early tomorrow and hope to go to the gym then.
