Marcia, you don't need to follow a specific diet. Try to record for some time and make note what food makes you feel better and what makes you feel worse. Protein and fat especially in first half of the day makes you feel less hungry, it does not have to be Atkins. Just try not to load on lots of refined carbs especially early in the day. Also a lot of people with arthritis have hidden food allergies (gluten in wheat, milk and some other foods are often the case). There is a way to reduce inflammation by chosing what you eat carefully. Fresh fruit and vegetables, and limiting processed food should help both with weight loss and arthritis. Turmeric is one of the spices that helps reduce inflammation. I add it to stews and soup and even to scrambled eggs. I also find that stretching helps a lot with aches and pains. I do not have arthritis but have some issues with joints due to aging and some past trauma. Hope you find a way to control both your weight and condition. Food is not a remedy for illness but what you eat can make a difference in how you feel.
