Went to my support group meeting today. It was interesting. They talked about several different subjects--dumping syndrome, how to deal with people that sabotage you, how to handle your relationship to food, etc. Most say that the relationship with food is not an issue for the first couple of months because you are healing from surgery and don't feel like eating much, but after that old habits can rear their ugly heads. They recommend taking care of the emotional baggage and habits before hand and that is what I'm trying to do now. Sabotaging individuals (including ourselves) can occur no matter how you are trying to lose weight and I think all of us have experienced this. They had a variety of ways that they dealt with this issue. Some just ignored others and had a one track mind to succeed. They just needed the help in succeeding with the surgery. Other people put boundaries up and didn't allow negative talk around them. Still others lost family or friends because of the decision they made. Dumping syndrome occurs if you eat the wrong things (fatty foods or sugar). Some have this and some don't. I'm hoping that I do once I have surgery because it will be a perfect deterant. I know it sounds crazy to have a bad side effect, but sugar addiction is that strong in my life and I question my ability to stay away from it indefinitely.

I'm still on track with my diet, but 1500 calories has not been easy. Crazy thing is I was staying in this range easily prior to being told that I had to and now I struggle. I think it's all in my head. I need to think positive and think "FULL". Mind over matter, right?
