Started eating more veggies and they do fill me up more than not eating any. I made brussel sprouts with one of the recipes on this site and loved them. I like sprouts anyway, but the recipe was easy and good. I made enough for lunch tomorrow. YUM!

I read another chapter in my book on dieting psychology. The subject was "self talk". They talked about negative and positive self talk. Negative self talk allows us to not exercise or eat the right foods and Positive self talk makes us feel good about ourselves and follow our diet and exercise plan. While I was reading this chapter I definitely recognized myself quite a bit and how my own self talk have sabotaged my diets over the years. The book mentioned that there is a "belief" that it is normal for human beings to want to avoid exercise and eat whenever they can. Their belief is that this comes from centuries of famine in the distant past--kind of a survival instinct. Positive self talk will counteract this natural innate tendency. Overweight people have perfected their survival instincts, but we no longer need these instincts in relationship to food.

The book recommends to do a few things in advance.

1. Expect negative self talk to rear it's ugly head
2. Use a visual STOP sign in your head to teach yourself to stop the negative self talk when you recognize it.
3. Have several positive self talk phrases ready when you this happens.
4. Also, start your day with a positive phrase.

I figure it would help to come up with some phrases to try out when I have negative self talk.

1. I will feel wonderful after exercising
2. When I exercise, I will be burning calories and losing weight faster and looking much better.
3. Food is not my friend and never has been.
4. Healthy food tastes much better and my body likes it much better because I feel better when I eat healthy.
5. Today is going to be great day and I will be successful today.

The book mentioned that you will feel better about yourself when you use positive self talk. The book is right because I feel better about myself just writing these 5 phrases out just now.

I'm really enjoying this book and am learning a lot about myself and how to help myself be successful at dieting. When I think about my life and how I handled other hurdles in my life, I am usually successful at getting over the hurdle because I don't accept "I can't" as an acceptable answer. I guess you could say that I'm stubborn and determined to succeed. Weight loss has been the only thing I've have failed at repeatedly. The big difference is I accept "I can't" as an answer. That will be NO MORE! Positive self talk will become a habit with me from now on.
