Today was my first family get together since I started my diet. We had hotdogs and brats macaroni salad, deviled eggs, baked beans, fruit and potato chips. I think I did OK with the food. I didn't eat any sugar--YEAH!! I didn't eat any macaroni salad, brats, beans or chips. The only thing I found where I probably could have cut back is only have one hotdog on a bun instead of two. Overall, I feel the day was a successful dieting day for me. I had a little too many carbs today, but I'll do better tomorrow. Still learning what works for me. I do like this new way of dieting for me. All other diets (for me at least) have been so restrictive with a bunch of rules and I always seem to forget the rules or get tired of following all the rules. The way I'm doing things now is adjusting things slowly and becoming successful on one thing at a time and then advancing things. It kind of prevents me from feeling a failure which is what I need right now. I think weight loss has been the one thing in my life that has not come easy and I haven't succeeded at. My job, school, etc. have always been easy for me in comparison to this. I'm feeling pretty good about things right now.

Since I'm seriously considering having weight loss surgery, I am reading a book called Weight loss surgery for dummies. I learned something that I never knew before. Simple carbs and sugar stimulate your appetite and protein suppresses your appetite. This may be the secret I need to make my diet successful long term. I'm learning so much and I'm soaking everything in like a sponge. I had been on many diets in my life and thought I had heard everything, but I guess I was wrong. I'm hoping this new information will not only help me, but others who have the same problems I have.

Glad u had good time with your family and is great that you have set goals for your self. Like you said you are adjusting which is what we all had to do at some point. I think you did great from the sounds of it. :)

I found that slowly changing my habits was easeir than changing everything at once, that seems to be a recipe for failure.

since i started reducing carbs and increasing protein after i was diagnosed as insulin resistant, i have found what it says in your book to be completely true. those simple sugars left me starving after an hour but the protein holds me for hours. it's been pretty amazing since i also thought i knew everything there was to know about dieting. because of that i can truthfully say this is the easiest diet i've ever been on, and i've been on dozens of diets. i'm glad to hear you are feeling more optimistic and in control of your eating. it's really a great feeling.

I've seen your posts on the forums and I think your story is very interesting! I sent you a buddy request because I want to know how you're doing with your weight loss. It sounds like you're on the right track by just being aware of your body and what fuel it really needs!
