Does this mean that other governments are more concerned with their citizen's health? So what does this mean?

We have the right to pick our food, I would not like to live in a place where they give me a meal plan 😒

it's about not poisoning your citizens not repression of food freedom.

This is nothing new. Other countries have different laws governing food.

@CR - yes, this is true. I wonder what foods are banned here (in North America) from other countries, because of perceived health risks.

If it were truly about giving us more freedom, I'd be all happy and proud. But if that were true, we'd be able to buy raw milk. Just sayin'.

Rosio did you even read the article? Would you know the chemical symbol for arsenic and whether it was added to your food... even if the US required it was on the label? I think the EU and other countries are right to ban food which is proven to damage health in humans by science, and is only added for asthetic reasons to protect manufacturers? I for one, would not want to have to be an expert on every chemical or additive a business could add to food .. without me knowing about it and the potential harmful consequences? Thats not a forced meal plan, that's forcing businesses not to interfere with food against consumers with unhealthy and harmful additives and chemicals - based on pure greed and profits.

I have heard hot Cheetos are flammable n coke is great to clean rust with. I love that’s my choice if I want to consume these or not

@Rosio - Following your logic, nothing should be banned from the foods we eat and the food industry should have carte blanche to add anything they want into the foods. And then, we, as consumers, should decide on what we want to eat. (provided we're advised about the health risks - which we really aren't unless we're chemists)

We've come quite a long way since Sinclair's The Jungle and there's work to be done yet, but people will eat and drink as they please...Say, how many bugs and rat "pellets" have you unwittingly ingested? :P

Sorry, bug bits* And bear in mind, mine was meant to be a tongue in cheek comment.

You do know bugs and rats are considered food right ? 😋

Europe has always had higher standards for food. It goes back to the originals laws passed to regulate what went into beer hundreds of years ago. America didn't have laws in place until the 1906 Food Purity Act which gave the US the FDA 1922. The food corporations have been trying to undermine regulations since.

I'd actually like to try that...never liked the idea of eating bugs (or rodents for that matter...) but I chalk it up to the cultural doxa I was raised in and try to keep an open mind with regards to foodstuffs ^^

Also, for some reason I've been intrigued by the thought of eating dormouse stuffed with roasted pine nuts ever since I read something mentioning it being once thought of as a delicacy...same with cuy....just don't let me see it happen or give me a chance to bond...

FDA allows for insect parts and maggots to be in some canned food products. Look at “21 Disgusting Things That Are Legally Allowed In Your Food”- BuzzFeed They allow just enough to where the food won’t harm you (in theory of course.)

@MalkinLeNefert One of my friends is from Lima, Peru. she goes home every year for a month to visit her family. first thing they do is go out for a Cuy dinner. for those of you wondering what Cuy is, it's guinea pig. My friend's grandmother used to raise them for food, like we raise chickens and pigs.

@Chrisw77 - Funny, I always pictured you as a male! I guess I associate the name with a masculine gender. Now I know better! Bugs! No, not there yet....maybe in my next life. They are in the same 'don't eat class as horses, but for different reasons. Actually trying to go pescadarian with a little hop on the red meat on weekends, for what I may be missing nutrition wise. That's my neurotic plan! :)
